Beach & Dive Site Clean-Up - Chalok Ban Khao

It was always going to be questionable whether the prevailing southerly breeze was going to give us a nice flat day in Chalok Ban Khao. Thankfully the weather gods smiled on us and Eco Koh Tao and Crystal Dive were able to field 25 people for this months underwater clean up. Coral Nursery Update and Junkyard Reef

The wind has finally abated and calm conditions have finally returned to the waters off Koh Tao. Eco Koh Tao took this opportunity to continue it’s propagation of coral fragments by setting up some more coral nurseries off Koh Tao. The idea of developing a coral nursery is very similar to nurseries for plants were seeds or cuttings are ‘planted’ and grown to a healthy size before being replanted on a natural or alternative reef....

Advising & Partnerships with Conservation Professionals

A pathway to success in desired development direction of Koh Tao. Over the last two months Eco Koh Tao and Crystal Dive joined together with members of the local community for a series of discussions on Koh Tao’s future. Last month Dr.Anond Sanitwong Na Ayudhaya from Chulalungkorn University in Bangkok began a study here of "Global Warming; Challenge or Opportunity of Koh Tao development" and started designing an adaptation plan...

Coral Nursery

One of the pet projects of Eco Koh Tao has been the development of an artificial reef just offshore from our home base at Crystal Dive resort. A dedicated group of divers took to the waters to further enhance the new sites value. Using household waste and artificially created structures the aim has been to design a local dive site of interest that we can use to train new divers before exposing them to our pristine natural reefs...

Hin Fai - Koh Tao’s "Biorock" dive

It has been sometime since we ventured out to Koh Tao’s newest dive site, Hin Fai, sporting its state of the art Biorock™ technology. The site was constructed and deployed in September and since then members of Marine Conservation Koh Tao, along with the Save Koh Tao group have been busy collecting and transplanting corals onto the structure...
