Project Aware Specialty & Junkyard Reef
In conjunction with our Reef
Check Eco diver courses students also participate in the Project
Aware Specialty as its topics address the issues discussed during
the Reef Check course.

"Central Station"
at Junkyard busy as usual with hundreds of cardinal fish!
The Project Aware Specialty
is also a non-diving course but with all our courses we always add
a diving component to our training. During the afternoon of the
30th participants and PADI Rescue Divers Alex & Cindy Clifford
joined Instructor Nathan Cook for a dive to the local artificial
reef that has been a work in progress of Crystal Dive & Eco
Koh Tao’s for the last couple of years.

Project Aware diver Alex Clifford helping to clear off some invasive
animals on our coral nurseries!
The divers cleared some invasive
ascidians (filter feeders) from our coral nurseries and took a casual
look around the site to see just how interesting artificial reefs
can be. They attract much life and we even discovered a ‘new’
Sweetlips that none of us could recognise as being common on Koh
Tao. A great Barracuda was thereabouts too keeping all the smaller
fish on their toes and all in all it was a very interesting dive.

An unknown Sweetlips for Koh Tao has joined us at Junkyard Reef.
Always good to have new and interesting visitors!
Congratulations to Alex and
Cindy for the achievements over the few days they were here on Koh
Tao.
