Impromptu Beach Clean Up

During our monsoon months, which stretch somewhere between October and November we get big waves, more wind and bigger tides.

These forces make oceanic environments more dynamic shifting more water especially surface waters around our tiny island.

On the afternoon of October 9 a pile of garbage attached to a bamboo raft washed up on the beach outside Crystal Dive Resort in Mea Haad.

"Team Eco" was summoned and managed to get a few people together to try and clean up the mess.

It was difficult to comprehend just how so much rubbish coalesced together to make this huge raft but oceanic forces converge with amazing force to create zones that are filled with plastic.

Our impromptu raft was filled with straws, plastic bags, elastic bands, small packets from sauces and other instant foods.

In this day and age it is important that we all try to reduce our impact as much as possible. Eating in rather than taking out, using reusable packaging and cloth bags. It is impossible to avoid all plastics but we can reduce our consumption on an everyday basis.

Thanks to those who helped out on a whim to clean the beach and make a difference.
